YouTube is reportedly deploying artificial intelligence to empower some of its premium subscribers to swiftly navigate to the most engaging segments of a video.
Instead of the conventional 10-second skip ahead, viewers can now double-tap to reveal a pill-shaped "jump ahead" button nestled in the bottom-right corner, as reported by 9TO5Google. Once activated, a brief text overlay announces, "jumping over commonly skipped section," as YouTube's AI algorithm, fueled by watch data, identifies the next highlight of the video.
In a bid to enhance user experience, YouTube is currently trialing a range of experimental features exclusively for its premium members, as disclosed on an experimental page sighted by MARKETING-INTERACTIVE. Though no experiments are currently active, interested viewers can enlist to participate, with the enticing prospect of earning gift cards for their input.
The page outlines that if a study aligns with a participant's profile, they'll receive a follow-up questionnaire detailing the study's parameters and potential rewards.
As YouTube bolsters its premium services, it's also intensifying efforts to crack down on third-party apps flouting its terms of service, particularly those facilitating ad-blocking. According to a statement, users employing such apps might encounter "buffering issues" or the dreaded message, "The following content is not available on this app," when attempting to view videos.
The platform stresses that its terms explicitly forbid third-party apps from disabling ads, emphasizing that ads play a crucial role in supporting creators and enabling global access to the streaming service.
