Manifestation in the Modern World: Does It Actually Work or Is It All in Your Head?
Manifestation; the belief that your thoughts, intentions and emotions can shape your reality. Ironically, we have all engaged in manifestations in one way or another. I mean, ever sat down and made your new year’s resolutions? Practiced affirmations, or written down your goals repeatedly? That is a form of manifestation. True, some have claimed to manifest dream jobs, soulmates or even some unexpected petty cash, making the superstitious and skeptical wonder if here’s any truth to the phenomenon or if it’s just modern-day wishful thinking. To me? I believe there’s more to it than meets the eye. A kind of rational explanation as the scientists like to say.
First, manifestation isn’t about sitting back and waiting for miracles to happen. I know, it would be great having wishes come true, but for manifestation to work, you have to do some work. Align your actions, mindset and energy with your goals. If you are manifesting being healthier, then act and behave healthier.
Is Manifestation Backed by Science?
well, there is no conclusive evidence that the universe is actively listening to grant your wishes. However, there is research supporting the power of mindset.
Take the Law of Attraction for instance; on the basis that you attract what you focus on. It’s not hocus Pokus magic but more in the lines of psychology. When you focus on positive outcomes, you are more likely to take actions that lead to those results something known as a self-fulfilling prophecy in psychology. And to me, manifestation works in the same way.
So, if you wake up thinking, “today looks like a terrible day.” you are more likely to notice all the negative things going on. Perhaps its why we hate Mondays so much… We naturally associate them with the beginning of a stressful work week and everything on a Monday just seems like a chore.
So, while the universe may not be your personal Guinee conjuring up your dream life, your bran certainly plays a role in shaping your reality.
That said, how do I know if manifestation is actually working? Again, we have all manifested something in one way or the other and we have noticed the changes…
You’re seeing opportunities you hadn’t noticed before. Ever set your mind on buying something and the suddenly you start seeing it everywhere? Or maybe you develop a crush on someone and then you just can’t stop stumbling into them even in places you swear they never frequented? That’s your brain filtering information based on your focus. When you focus on your goals, you are more likely to notice opportunities and ways to achieve them.
You are taking intentional steps toward your goals. Manifestation isn’t just about thinking and affirming, it requires action. You have to do it, for it to happen. If you find yourself making moves that eventually lead to your goal, that’s manifestation working.
One common misconception of manifestation is that it’s a shortcut to success. But in the actual perspective of things, no amount of writing down resolutions or affirming to yourself with eyes closed will replace the hard work you have to invest. manifestation is more like a tool to alight your mindset and attitude with your goals, you will still need to take action.
Right now, manifestation is no longer seen as a kind of spiritual practice but rather a part of pop culture. Influencers are sharing their manifestation routines and success stories. TikTok has its videos of how people “manifested” dream jobs, spouses and even money. However, this also raises skepticism and backlash. Imagine your girlfriend going on about how they manifested their lover… sounds like you were hoaxed, lol.
In truth though, manifestation has never been magic–it’s a mindset tool. By focusing your thoughts and actions on your goals you are more likely to notice opportunities and take steps towards success.
Get clear on what you want and be specific on what you are manifesting. visualize your success by spending some time picturing yourself achieving your goal. Ask yourself, “what happens when i make it?” Take action, manifestation isn’t magic. Recognize the small wins and be patient. Change doesn’t happen overnight, so keep showing up for yourself.
