General Muhoozi’s X Account Deactivated After Shocking Death Threat

It’s well-known that political leaders carefully curate their social media presence to avoid diplomatic blunders. Well, for Uganda, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba seems to have missed the memo. His tweets have never been shy of controversy, sharing his thoughts on Uganda’s politics, military affairs, and regional relations with an audacity that has left many of us wondering if he was just trolling or genuinely serious. I mean, he did declare that it would take him two weeks to invade Kenya…

Diplomatic channels buzzed with concerns over the General’s statements. Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, Muhoozi’s father, had to issue an apology to Kenya, reassuring them that Uganda had no intention of invading their neighbor.

The Nairobi tweet isn’t the only time Muhoozi has made headlines. He’d later tweet about his undying admiration for Russia’s Vladimir Putin and openly critique Western powers, and his call for the reunification of Uganda and Rwanda. His tone often unapologetically nationalistic. And while true that everyone has their vision or a right to expression, it seemed that Muhoozi was crossing the line between personal opinions and state diplomacy.

Early 2025, Muhoozi escalated his controversial online presence by targeting Uganda’s leading opposition figure, Bobi Wine. In a now-deleted tweet, he stated,

“If Mzee was not there, I would cut off his head today.” referring to his father as the only person preventing him from harming Bobi Wine. Uganda’s President’s Son threatens to behead his Father’s Political Rival

This alarming statement drew widespread condemnation and heightened concerns about the General’s influence and intentions. After all, he isn’t just any Ugandan; he is the First Son, a four-star General, and a man who could influence national and regional stability.

Even after dismissing it as a joke and stating that some comments were just meant to be ironic, Uganda’s opposition leader Bobi Wine came out stressing that he didn’t take kindly to such threats.

Shortly after the threatening tweet against Bobi Wine, Muhoozi’s X account has mysteriously gone offline.

In his farewell tweet to his X followers, the general noted that his decision to quit the platform was motivated by his religion and a renewed commitment to his military duty as a general in the Uganda Peoples’ Defense Forces (UPDF).

It is on the instructions and blessings of my Lord Jesus Christ that I leave this social media and dedicate myself to my assignment to bring peace and security to our region,” he stated and urged his followers to continue supporting his father, whom he referred to as “the greatest general of the resistance.” President Museveni’s son Muhoozi exits X after threatening to behead a political rival
