Because the internet can’t stop, and won’t stop coming up with new slang, trending slang words from the Urban Dictionary.
If there’s anything we can all agree on is that words and communication are so dynamic a new slang can pop up overnight. I mean, words are evolving faster than TikTok trends, if you are not up to speed you will end up cursing the young generation, lol. Add this Gen-Z hype and all and you have yourself an entirely new set of expressions…the urban dictionary.
Believe it or not, 2025 is already serving up some new lingo, so, we’ve rounded up the hottest Urban Dictionary words that are making rounds across 2025’s virgin internet, and IRL (in real life).
- Main Character Syndrome. Ever heard of that “if your life was a movie what title would it be” line? Well, that’s exactly what main character syndrome is, the belief that your life is a movie and that you’re the star of the show—thus, the main character. It’s the ultimate way to call someone out for being a little too self-absorbed.
- Situationship. You meet someone, talk a little, something catches but it’s just not there yet. A romantic, semi-romantic, kinda flirty but still thinking about it…complicated, and this word gets it perfectly. A situationship.
- Rizz. Ever met someone with a seeming ability to flirt with anyone anywhere? They have the charisma, they got game, charm, and can effortlessly flirt and charm their way through life…now that’s rizz right there.
- Zombied. Ghosting is so 2020. When someone reappears after vanishing from your life without explanation, you know those WhatsApp grey and blue ticks? they’ve “zombied” you.
- Main Character Energy. Know anyone who walks into a room and instantly takes center stage? Kind of an Alfa vibe going on, like their life is their movie. That there, is main character energy, celebrating confidence and charisma of people who make everything about them—and we kind of love it.
- NPC Vibes. We have covered the extroverts with their main character energy. For introverts, we are more of NPCs. You know, those people that are seemingly stuck in the background of any situation, just going through the motions without adding much to the conversation? That’s NPC energy, a reference to Non-Playable Characters (NPC) in video games.
- Chronically Online. We all have that pal that is ever online, be it in the dead of night or day, they are literally chronically online.
- Goblin Mode. Ever had one of those days you just want to lounge around and be lazy? That’s “goblin mode,” used to describe unapologetic embrace of laziness and chaos because why not? Sometimes you just want to relax and unwind from the horrors of daily seriousness.
- Clout Goblin. The social media fame hunters…this person chases social media fame by any means necessary.
- Purse First. Finally, a reminder to prioritize your financial goals. “Purse first” is basically a modern affirmation for securing the bag before entertaining any distractions, because who’s got time to be broke?
